Free custom Photoshop brushes- Set One
I've been experimenting a lot lately with Photoshop's custom brushes and I figured, why not share them. I'll be posting my experiments, and I'll provide links for you to download the Photoshop brush files so you can try them out yourself.
Once you download the brushes file, there are two ways you can load them in Photoshop. One is to access them through the Brush menu. When you choose the brush tool go to the brush pull-down menu, press the arrow on the top right and select 'Load Brushes'. Then locate my brushes file and the brushes will appear in your brush thumbnails.
The second way to load them, is to put the file into your Presets/Brushes folder in the Photoshop application. Then once again, go to the brush pull-down menu, press the arrow and the brushset will be listed at the bottom. These were designed to work best in Photoshop CS4 but they should work in previous versions as well.
Here's my first set. Four brushes- crosshatching, oil paint, hair and foliage. Below are some of the results you can achieve with these brushes.

Download-
Set One- CWahl brushes1
Note- These brushes are free to use for whatever artistic purpose you wish, be it personal or professional artworks. Just don't go repackaging and selling the brushes (not that any of you nice folk would). Besides that, they're all yours. Enjoy!

Hi Chris, please I can't download the brushes. This is my first time I am trying to download brushes, can you please tell me how to do it. By the way you are so kind when you create your brushes to share it with us. Thanks so much and God Bless you...I wish one day I can draw like you!!! ;D
Hi Judy,
I'll take you through it using the first set as an example-
1. Press the link, 'CWahl brushes1' which is written after Set One.
2. This will take you to the download page at 4shared.com.
3. Prees the blue tab which says 'Download Now'. It will ask you to wait 20 seconds for your download link to appear.
4. After the twenty seconds select the link, 'Download file now'.
5. Then your computer may ask you how to download it. Select to save the file to you desktop, Downloads folder etc.
6. Then to load the brushes into Photoshop either load it manually via the brush menu in Photoshop or put the file in your Brushes folder within the Photoshop application.
Hope that clears it up for you.

Have an awesome day!
I have Photoshop 7 and it won't allow me to load the brushes (from within the program). Is there any way I can use these? They look gorgeous!
Hi Anon
Looking on the internet it seems that PS7 is a bit glitchy when it comes to loading brushes created outside of that version.
Firstly, have you unpacked the zip file? You should have a file with an ABR extension.
Try putting the file directly into the brushes folder located in the presets sub folder in your Photoshop file location. Then load it via the brushes pull down in Photoshop. See if that helps.
Thanks for the quick response, Chris. I did unpack the file and put the .abr file in the brushes folder, but it won't work. I also tried to load it right from the brushes palette in Photoshop, but no luck there, either. Perhaps there's no hope for PS7?
Donimo, see if it works by unzipping it into the desktop and then cut and paste (not copy and paste) into the brushes folder in PS. I know i had to do something like this for an older version of PS and i cannot remember if it was 7 or not. But that's all i got, sorry. Good luck.
Nope. Still no luck. I guess I've hit a dead end here. Thanks, though!
Hi Donimo
Sorry they're not working for you, mate.
I'll look into it further to see if there's anything I can do at my end (eg resave the brushes in a legacy format). I'll keep you posted.
This is great man. It's so nice to see some real natural brushes instead of rummaging through thousands of brush packs made by complete hacks. A true artist you are sir. Love your work!
